Richmond Shakespeare Festival

Presented at the Starr Gennett Building, located in Richmond, Indiana. Performed June 21st thru July 6th, 2019.

Shakespeare penned many classics in his life, and I had the privilege of working with the Richmond Shakespeare Festival to bring "Hamlet" and "The Tempest" to the stage. "Hamlet" is the classic tragedy of the prince of Denmark being haunted by his deceased father. Learning of his uncle Claudius' plan to marry his mother and his murder of Hamlet's father, he decides to exact revenge. "The Tempest" is the tale of the sorcerer Prospero, who lives on a remote island with his daughter Miranda, and is aided by the spirits Ariel and Caliban. When a storm hits the water and leaves a crew shipwrecked, Miranda falls in love with one of the shipmates.

Working as a Costume Intern, myself and three other interns worked under the direction of the costume designer, making and altering all the costumes, doing laundry, taking care of costumes, working quick changes, and moving props and sets as needed. The building, an abandoned piano factory, was partially outside, so weather and outside distraction (i.e. fireworks, pigeons, etc.) were a major factor. Moving and loading costumes to travel between the housing/sewing shop and stage to be cleaned was part of the daily routine.
