Ladies in Lavender

Presented at Meadow Brook Theatre, located in Rochester, Michigan. Performed March 16th thru April 10th, 2022.

Two older sisters, who live together in rural England in 1936, suddenly find a mysterious young boy washed up on the beach by their cottage. They take him in, and nurse him back to health. But, when one of the sisters, Ursula, falls in love with the much younger man, should she set him free again to live his life, or keep him in their quaint cottage to spend the rest of time together?

I was offered the position of Assistant Costume Designer for this show, which I happily accepted. I worked closely with Liz, learning her design process and giving input. I did light hang and focus, and worked Run Crew for the show. I steamed, tracked, and preset costumes, did several quick changes (mainly changing skirts, cardigans, and dresses), kept up the wig styling, and fixed any knitting issues that happened to the prop knitting the sisters did onstage. I also got to make several of the individual pieces, including Dorcas' white 1940's style apron, Olga's red knit textured skirt, black and white button down top with an orange silk flatlined backing, and her orange linen artist's smock. I also made the prop vintage style male swimsuit by knitting blue and white acrylic yarn in big strips on a hand crank circular knitting machine. The Costume Shop Manager and Costume Designer, Liz, sewed and knit together these sections to make a complete bathing suit.
