Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Presented at the Hangar Theatre, located in Ithaca, New York. Performed July 22nd thru August 7th, 2021.

A classic horror musical centering around the barber Sweeney Todd, seeking revenge against Judge Turpin. The Judge, who wrongfully accused Sweeney of a crime he did not commit and sent him away, will now be subjected to Todd's unending desire to murder him. In order to practice, and to add to the meat supply of the failing pie shop located below his barbers, Sweeney kills all of the people that come into his place for a shave. Mrs. Lovett, the owner of the pie shop, spends her days transforming the Londoners that visit Todd into her bestselling meat pies. Gross, I know.

Performed on an outdoor stage in the summertime, this musical was a challenge of unpredictable weather and gallons of stage blood to clean. Acting as Wardrobe Supervisor and Backstage Run Crew, and hired as a Costume Shop/Wardrobe Fellow, I had to maintain the costumes and wigs, supervise and help with any costume changes, and did the laundry at the end of the day and in between shows. The stage blood was cleaned off by hand washing in a mixture of Oxi Clean and detergent, with a dash of bleach where appropriate. Consistent laundering, the use of wardrobe spray, and steaming made sure the costumes were fresh for the next show. Along with running the show, I also made Johanna's white veil hat.
